Profile Information

Q: Do I need to fill out all of the profile questions? There is some information that I don't want to be made public.

A: The only information that is required for access to the network is your name, password and email address. Everything else is optional. Even though you are asked for your birth date you can make that info private. Any field that you've populated already can be removed or made private by accessing My Settings in the upper right hand box.

Friends

Q: How do you add a person as a friend?

A: Go to that person's personal page. Under their picture you should see "Add As Friend". Also, anyone you invite to the network will automatically be your friend after they join.

My Page Appearance

Q: How can I change the appearance of my "My Page"?

A: You can change the color scheme of the page by clicking Theme on your My Page. You can change the order of the information boxes in the left or middle columns by clicking and dragging the gray bar of the information box to a new location.

Q: Why does my photo appear at the bottom of everyone's Personal page?

A: Whenever any person displays someone else's personal page their photo is displayed at the bottom of the page. Your photo is displayed to show how your comments will look if you choose to leave a comment on someone's personal page.

Sending an Email or Event Invitation to Everyone

Q: How can I send an email or event invitation to everyone?

A: There are three ways to do this, the correct way, the hard way, or the slightly incorrect way.

1. The system let's you send bulk emails or invitations to all of your friends. The correct way is to "friend" other people on the web site. You do this by going to another member's page & clicking "Add as Friend". When you compose your email you can then send it to all of your friends. (see the FAQ for FRIENDS above)

2. The hard way is to build a list of everyone's email addresses by going to their page on this site and copying their email address.

3. The slightly incorrect way is to copy someone else's distribution list after they send a bulk email.

Photo Image Sizes

Q: What size images should I use for my events and my profile photo?

A: The web site can automatically re-size any images to fit the situation, but if want to control this yourself here are the optimal sizes to use:
Event Images: 173x173 pixels
Profile Photo: 64x64 pixels

Ning now provides a default image for events or you can still use one of the images we have provided or your own image.

Event Announcements

Q: Can I create a new event announcement without including a photo?

A: Right now we are unable to stop the system from requiring a photo with each new event announcement. As an alternative we have supplied some default images you can use for your event announcements. Go to the Notes tab to access these images.

Q: How does PIB compare with BNI or Yellow Tie?

A: Our group encourages the relationship to form before we expect any exchange of referrals or business leads.  We believe that knowing a person forges a life-long network.  Referring to a person only develops a short-term and transactional contact.

 

Q. Do you have a quota for referrals in PIB?

A. We expect referrals to become a natural product of a trusted relationship.  There are not any quotas.

 

Q. Can more than one person from a specific industry join PIB?

A. Yes, everyone may join PIB.  We believe that people need options for purchasing and referring business.  It is not our desire to force people to do business together in a stilted manner by limiting the number of members from an industry.
