SIUE Offers Business Tax Training

A business tax class is scheduled for Friday, July 13, 2012, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.

This class is designed for business owners, business tax accountants, bookkeepers, and career seekers. The class will review major concepts, record-keeping requirements, and tax saving strategies involved when preparing a corporate tax (1120 or 1120S) return and sole-proprietor or sole member LLC-Schedule C. 

"A major component of operating any business is the understanding of how taxes will impact the profit and operations of the company.  This class surveys the multiple types of tax which are pertinent to businesses.  A business owner or manager needs to comprehend the deadlines and requirements for payroll rules and taxes as well as the multiple forms of taxation or regulated benefits which will directly relate to their operations.  Proper understanding of these items can decrease the likelihood of penalties, offer tax planning advantages, and help to increase overall profitability"

Additional topics include: Employment and payroll tax form preparation and calendar of due dates (including the Form 1099 and W-2, W-4, W-9, and I-9), the Affordable Health Care Act, business use of home, auto expenses, meals and entertainment, depreciation, rental properties, and a basic survey of benefit plans.  This class will be in a workshop format and will include all applicable materials and publications.
